So, does this mean canned food is better? Not necessarily. Although the proponents of canned foods say that modern canning technologies preserve the nutrients remarkably well, there are a few holes in their argument. For one thing, the canning process usually involves removing the skin of the fruit. This means that you, the consumer, no longer get to see the skin which gives the first indicator of freshness. In other words, unscrupulous businesses could be canning fruits which are no longer fresh. Secondly, the skinning is mostly done manually. This means it is not truly integrated into the canning process, so there is a gap in time in which the fruits lose the protection of their skin but have not yet been canned.

During this time, a lot of vitamins, especially vitamin C can be lost. Finally, you will also have noticed that many big businesses have actually out-sourced the lower-value parts of their businesses to Third World countries like China and India. You will probably find that the fruits come from orchards in China, which are then canned in factories in China. An obvious question to ask is "Are these (American-owned) Chinese factories using the latest canning technologies?"

In the end, for someone trying to lose weight, it is unwise to leave your nutrition in the hands of modern business. Unless you are actually buying your fruits and vegetables directly from a nearby farm or orchard, you should consume vitamin supplements when you are on a diet. Intercept your intent to watch TV by asking, "What will this hour or two on the couch do for me? Wouldn't I rather take my dog out for a walk?"

You're visiting a friend who lives on a second floor condo and you're about to call the elevator. Stop and ask yourself, "Couldn't I walk those two flights of stairs?"

The Best Way To Lose Weight

There is much talk in the media about how more and more people are becoming obese and the negative affect this can have on our lives. The question is what is the best way to go about losing weight? There are so many different weight loss programs being advertised which makes it very hard to know which one to go for. In this article I write about what I consider is the best route to take to help people to shed their excess weight and to eventually reach their ideal target weight.

I have battled with my own weight for much of my adult life. In the past I have tried methods such as crash dieting where I would basically radically reduce the amount I was eating for a number of weeks in the hope that this would work. I had limited success with this approach, at times I did lose quite a lot of the fat but it always seemed to return only a few weeks later, once I had started to eat properly again. This I have read is not exactly the most healthy of routes to take and one in which I eventually gave up on.

I was then quite lucky to receive some very good advice from a friend of mine. He had also had many problems in controlling his own weight and told me about how he had managed to reach a weight he was happy with.

What he had decided to do was to change his whole approach to dieting and weight loss. He had often seen it as one massive choir and effort, an effort that he never truly believed would result in a successful outcome. This he soon realised was a very negative way at looking at things which no doubt was always likely to end with a negative result.

He then decided to turn full circle and to think in a far more positive way. Instead of seeing weight loss as a choir he would see it as a form of hobby. You are no doubt thinking that this is rather strange, well that was what I was thinking when he was explaining it all to me.

Within his overall hobby of losing weight he would have additional hobbies. These included playing tennis, badminton and football. These were sports he had enjoyed playing when he was at college but that he had rarely played since becoming employed. He therefore decided to start to play these sports again whenever he could. His opinion was that if he could put in as much time to his new hobby of losing weight as he did for all of his other hobbies that the results should then be positive.

He set himself goals of where he wanted to be, weight wise, at the end of each month for example and worked hard to attain these goals. The sports that he decided to start playing again not only helped him to lose weight but also helped to improve his social life.

I decided to follow my friends lead and took a similar approach. This is probably not ideal or even suitable for reasons such as health for some people but it certainly helped me and my friend to feel a lot better about ourselves and our weight.

By now, you should know that high protein, low carb diets work for weight loss. They're sometimes hard to stay with over the long term, but I'm not asking you to go strictly on a high protein, low carb diet. All I'm doing with these 2 foods is easing you into the right direction.

The third reason black eye peas and black beans are great for weight loss is because they're low in carbs and calories. If you look at the back of the cans, you'll see that each serving has 19 or 20 grams of carbs. But most of those are fiber so you don't need to count those grams. You'll end up with a "net" of 12-15 carbs per serving. But get this. There are 0 grams of sugar in those "net" carbs. So you're sitting pretty.

Now the calories... the labels on these cans are misleading. But they're misleading to your benefit actually. The labels actually count the fiber calories. You don't have to count them since they don't get digested.

So a whole can of black beans will only count as 285 calories. The can of blackeye peas has only 385 calories. With all of that protein and fiber, you won't be very hungry after eating. These 2 foods will help eliminate your snacks and "crowd out" bad calories from other foods that you'll naturally eat less of now.

The 4th reason is that they're easy to cook. Throw them in a small pot and cook them for less than 5 minutes. Voila. They're done. Just strain out the water. Quick and easy. Just what I like. Now, here's a simple diet plan to follow.

At breakfast, eat 1/2 can of black beans with 2-3 eggs scrambled. If necessary for taste, use a touch of sour cream or barbeque sauce (if you don't particularly like the taste of black beans). But remember, not too much. Just a touch.

At lunch, have a salad with basically any vegetables that you want. Add 1 can of water-packed tuna and then throw 1 can of blackeye peas in there. Mix it up and enjoy. For dinner, have a lean meat and the leftover 1/2 can of black beans.

It's as simple as that to lose weight. Seriously, it is. Try it for 4 days. In 4 days you'll have proof that it works.

They say certain herbs can enhance your weight loss experience. Advertisers claim that herbs, being natural originations from the earth, can and will accelerate your weight loss efforts if you choose to supplement your diet with the correct herbal weight loss elements.

Heres a quick reality check: Weight loss is not herb based. Never has been, never will be.

Weight loss has more to do with mental programming than any other circumstance you can create, herbal or otherwise. So maybe the title of this article should be mental weight loss magic.

Lets stay with the herbal subject for the sake of argument. Heres a question: Can an herb stop your body from processing extra calories into fat storage? Is it possible for any herbal supplement to reprogram your thoughts on diet or exercise?

That would be a cool invention. No drug can do that. Neither can an herb.

Weight loss is based upon one simple factor: you body using more calories for energy, daily, than you consume, daily. Losing weight is no more complex than that. Eat less and burn more calories and bang! Weight loss has arrived.

The difficulty that most probable success stories face is coming to terms with that one small truth. But if you can come to terms with that: you must burn more calories than you consume on a consistent basis to lose weight. Then you will be well on your way to weight loss success!
